National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) and Alpha Epsilon Phi (AEPhi) Create Strategic Alliance

March 4, 2016, 2016 — Nancy K. Kaufman, CEO of the National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW, Inc.), and Bonnie Wunsch, Executive Director of Alpha Epsilon Phi Sorority (AEPhi), are proud to announce an official strategic alliance between their two organizations. Both have histories over 100 years old and share a historic connection. In the early 20th century, National Council of Jewish Women founder Hannah G. Solomon was initiated as a National Honorary Member of AEPhi. As a symbol of the high regard the sorority has for Hannah’s legacy, the current national president is given Hannah’s special pin. This is an indelible link between the two organizations.

The National Council of AEPhi and Board of Directors of NCJW, Inc. are enthusiastic about the opportunity for current collegians and alumnae to share collaborative efforts in social justice around the country. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms. Similarly, AEPhi was founded to foster lifelong friendship and sisterhood, academics, social involvement and community service while providing a home-away-from-home for their members. Together, both organizations provide leadership and educational opportunities for women.

There are several communities around the country where NCJW sections and AEPhi chapters are both strong. Through this new partnership, sorority chapters will be paired with NCJW sections for leadership trainings, community service projects, and advocacy days. NCJW vice president and AEPhi alumna Janet Savelle Solitt said, “AEPhi and NCJW are both rooted by Jewish values and their members’ desires to live and work among a sisterhood of like-minded women. AEPhi introduced me to this concept and NCJW provided me with the skills and opportunities needed to become a community leader. A partnership between the two will go a long way in providing a steady stream of trained women advocates into communities after graduation.”

Each AEPhi graduating senior will receive a one-year complimentary membership to NCJW. Through this membership, she will be invited to join NCJW distance learning calls about Israel, reproductive justice, and other key initiatives. She will also be invited to attend NCJW national events such as Washington Institute and Convention. NJCW will offer trainings to AEPhi leaders at upcoming events with a focus on community organizing and public policy issues.

The National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) is a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates who turn progressive ideals into action. Inspired by Jewish values, NCJW strives for social justice by improving the quality of life for women, children, and families and by safeguarding individual rights and freedoms.
